Humans are Extinct! – Post Human War Review

As a media/game reviewer I get a lot of publishers and developers sending me their game’s. It’s a win-win as I get to try out new and interesting games before they come out and the developers get support for  a game they have been busy crafting for many, many hours. So when I tell you I haven’t played anything like Post Human War it means something. To find out if it’s a good something, read on. Post Human War(PHW here on out) is a Real Time Strategy game(RTS) by indie developer studio chahut. If you are a fan of the genre there will be much that is familiar here. Your team is comprised of units that move on a hexagonal grid. You can move farther…

.Hack is Back! >Hack//G.U. will have physicall release on PS4

One of my favorite series on the PS2 is finally getting the remake treatment. The remake consists of all three .Hack//G.U. games completely redone for the PS4. Sony keeps the games coming and this one is definitely on my radar. For those of you who have never played a .Hack game before, it takes place inside an MMO universe and flashes back to the real world during some cinematics. It also tied in with the anime, so if you wanted the complete story you would play the game and watch the Anime as well. Anyway well worth checking out, I personally cant wait. Check out the complete press release below. BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. today confirms that .hack//G.U.™ Last Recode will receive a physical…

The Fantastical world of Yooka Laylee – Yooka Laylee review

Way back in 2012 there was talk of the developers of the original Banjo Kazoiee coming out with a new plat-former. I remember having mixed feelings of excitement and sadness as I knew it wasn’t a new Banjo game, however it was developed by the same people. Fast forward to May 1st 2015 and their new game shows up on Kickstarter and within 38 minutes it met it crowdfunding goal of 175k and in only 21 hrs it hit the 1 million mark. At the time this was the fastest any game had hit the 1 million mark. I suppose you could say people where excited to get their hands on it. The game was called Yooka Laylee. Last year Team  17 sent me an…

Black Shell Media – Indie developer’s best friend

I got the honor of meeting with and talking to Raghav Mathur the co-founder of Black Shell Media. You may or may not have heard of Black Shell Media, but you really should know who they are. Especially if you are an Indie developer. For the rest of this article I will be referring to Black Shell media as BSM, because I am lazy.;) So what does BSM do? Why is it so important to the Indie community? Here is the best explanation straight from BSM. “We’re a publishing and marketing firm dedicated to helping independent video game developers reach massive audiences, publish financially successful titles and turn game development into a career. Black Shell Media publishes over 55 titles with 1.5 million players worldwide.…

Sacred Fire – A Psychological RPG

One of the great things about working as media is that I get sneak peaks and news about games I may have never heard of otherwise. Sacred Fire was one of those games. I was already intrigued by the psychological RPG tag on this game. Then when I heard one of the voice actors is Doug Cockle I was completely on board. If that name doesn’t sound familiar to you, that’s ok. I only know who is due to my complete adoration of the Witcher series. Doug Cockle is the voice of Geraldt, which shows me that they are serious about the quality of this game. Hopefully I will get my hands on a review copy when its ready and will let you guys know…

Jotun Review

When I first saw screenshots of Jotun I knew I had to play it. The art style looked incredible and the gameplay from the trailers looked like a lot of fun. I had a lot of expectations for this game being something special. Sometimes when I actually play, my expectations are let down. Thankfully with Jotun my expectations were not only met, but exceeded. This is a game I will return to over and over again. I  had the opportunity to meet William Dube’ of Thunder Lotus games and try out their next game Sundered, I can say from my play time, it is going to be another fantastic game. I won’t spend time talking about it in this review, but lets just say I…

Nintendo Switch – In spite of the name, this looks great!

I’m just going to say it… Switch..really? The name NX just sounded so cool to me, so futuristic. Then came the announcement..sigh. The Nintendo Switch. Maybe the name will grow on me..maybe. In all fairness, its pretty standard to have a code name and then change the name at the reveal, but still. Putting the name aside, I am actually really excited for Nintendo’s newest console. I think the Wii-U was very underrated with a lot of really great games. We won’t talk about the third party support, which was ok at best. The one thing that I really didn’t like about the Wii-U was that the range for the pad was very short. I couldn’t go in the next room without it losing connection.…

Overwatch Review

Intro Overwatch was released on May 24th, 2016 to incredible hype and staggering success. The team-based FPS (First-Person Shooter) superhero game quickly soared to over 10 million players worldwide (PC, Xbox One, and PS4) and also surpassed the immensely popular League of Legends, as the most played game in Korean internet cafe’s. That stat may not seem like much, but that’s a very telling and impressive feat. The game is a first in many respects for Blizzard; it’s a FPS to start with, an entirely new genre for them, and it combines the company’s expertise at rich lore, character history, depth, colorful and beautifully rendered art as well as a cinematic quality soundtrack. These are all things Blizzard excels at with its usual lineup…

More then I Expected Hyper X Stinger Review

I have been a big fan of the Hyper X name brand for a long time. They started in 2002 with high performance memory and since then have expanded to headsets, keyboards, SSD and many other PC components. They have always put out quality products. So when I was gifted by Hyper X with their new $50 headset, I had mixed feelings, honestly. As an audio fan, and a very picky one at that, I wasn’t sure how these headsets would sound. Don’t get me wrong, I was super grateful for the headsets, so the worst case scenario was I had a headset I could listen to my music with. I love music almost as much as I like gaming, so it’s really a win-win…

Mediaman’s Adventures at TwitchCon 2016

Before I get started on this article, I want to make sure I thank Twitch for the invite. So far, it has been a great experience. As someone who is creator of content, it is great to meet so many creative people. Not only did I meet gamers, but also musicians, comedians and all kinds of artistic people. This is a place overflowing with creativity! The best part of all of this is for the most part, people are really friendly. It feels like a community of passionate gamers and artists. At first I thought this was going to be a place where streamers where just going to pat each other on the back. There is some of that, but it really is so much…

How to watch the Overwatch Grand Finals

The Overwatch Open, hosted by ELeague, is the largest competitive Overwatch tournament to date. With a prize pool of $300,000 on the line, Team Europe (represented by Misfits) vs Team North America (represented by EnVyUs) will go head to head on Friday night, Sept 30th at 10:00PM EDT in Atlanta, GA. Don’t worry though, you don’t have to buy a ticket and suffer through the humidity of Atlanta, Georgia to see the epic Grand Finals. The Grand Finals can be seen in a number of ways for free. The entire tournament so far has been broadcast on Twitch, by Blizzard and ELeague, in partnership with FaceIt and Republic of Gamers. The Grand Finals, in a historic move for Blizzard, will also be broadcast live on cable television on TBS, something few competitive game tournaments have done. There have been a series of matches over the past week, as many hopeful teams were eliminated trying to earn their spot to represent their continent. There are now two teams left. The Tournament has been cast in a highly professional, sportslike broadcast manner. With 3 commentators, 2 playbyplay casters, one interviewer and loads of replays, overlaid graphics, etc. to help you follow along. Recognizing that not everyone may be…

Worst School Day Ever! Ian’s Eyes Review

So, when I was sent this game for review, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew I liked the art style and it looked very interesting from the previews, but other than that, I knew nothing about this game. The one thing that was truly promising is that the publisher is Soedesco. So far, every game I have played that they published I have really liked. So how does Ian’s eyes stack up to the other games I have played under this publisher? Read on to find out, or scroll to the bottom and look at the score. Honestly, to understand if you would like this game, you need to read on. Graphics – 7/10 I really liked the look of this game. Jeffrey Weissman Interview

As I mentioned in my article on Colossus Con, one of the big highlights for me was meeting Jeffrey Weissman. Jeffrey was not only friendly and warm, he was also gracious enough to grant me an interview. The following is transcribed word for word from that interview. Jeffrey Weissman Interview MediaMan: Thanks for taking some time to talk to us today, Mr. Weissman. How are you doing? Jeffrey Weissman: Hello Mr. MediaMan (in his best announcer voice).  Yeah, I’m a little tired, we got in at 3:00 this morning.  We had a really quick turn around. I’m in previews in a show in San Francisco right now that just got written up in the New York Times because it’s an immersive environmental thing where you…

Colossus Con – A big little convention

I just returned from Colossus Con and wanted to share with you, the Mediaman fans, my experience. About a month ago, I was invited to cover Campbell Con. When I responded to the invite with a “Yes, would love to cover it”, I then got an invite to Colossus Con as well. For those who are not aware, both Campbell Con and Colossus Con are local, more intimate versions of Comic Con. Campbell Con is located in Campbell and Colossus Con is in Merced. Both are in California. Campbell Con is in October, so I will do a separate write up for that convention. I really wanted to support local artists and writers, and as an added bonus, meet Gil Gerard. For the first convention…
